National Junior Honor Society


The National Junior Honor Society is designed to give recognition to students who are outstanding in meeting the five honor society goals of scholarship, leadership, character, citizenship and service.  These characteristics have been associated with membership in the organization since its beginning in 1921.  It is both an honor and a responsibility to be given membership.  The following are requirements for membership in the Bleeker Junior High School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society:

  1. The student must be in the 8th grade as of September.
  2. Academic requirements:
    1. A combined average of 90% or higher in all major subject areas must be met for the first, second and third marking periods of the 8th grade.
    2. Past record of scholarship: Applicant must have maintained a 90% cumulative average in all major subject areas in the 7th grade.
  3. Excellent rank in character and school citizenship.
  4. Approval by a  faculty member.
  5. A minimum of 15 hours of community service credits, authenticated by an advisor or supervisor and/or participation in extracurricular activities (school-related or independent).

APPLICATION DEADLINES:

All paperwork should be submitted to Ms. Gomes in Rm. 106

Step 1: DUE Thursday, November 16, 2023

  1. Teacher recommendation completed (see following page for details)

Step 2: DUE Thursday, November 30, 2023

  1. Copy of 7th grade final report card – PLEASE PRINT FROM NYC STUDENT ACCOUNT IF NECESSARY
  2. Copy of 1st marking period 8th grade report card

Step 3: DUE Friday, February 9, 2024

  1. Copy of 2nd marking period 8th grade report card

Step 4: DUE Friday, April 19, 2024

  1. Copy of 3rd marking period 8th grade report card

Step 5: DUE Friday, May 10, 2024

  1. Log of community service hours (see attached page)
  2. Log of extracurricular and community activities (see attached page)

All required documents must be submitted on time. Late submissions will not be accepted and you will not be accepted into the National Junior Honor Society. 

At the conclusion of the application process, students will be inducted into the National Junior Honor Society with a ceremony in the spring.  It is the applicant’s responsibility to meet the above deadlines and submit all required forms.  Questions regarding this notice and acceptance should be directed to Ms. Gomes [email protected] or Ms. Bellomo [email protected]
